Health Plans Know The Effect & Cost of Chronic Kidney Disease

Chronic Kidney disease is costly at greater than $130 billion of Medicare spending per year. Kidney disease management is unique and requires attention to detail. Root cause analyses, dedication to good primary care, early diagnoses, referrals, and access to treatment, together help save kidneys, lives, preserve quality of life, result in happier healthier populations, and help decrease the financial burden of chronic kidney disease.

The financial burden of kidney disease far exceeds the financial cost to health plans: it is also costly to families via loss of income due to disability & inability to work as well as loss of days from work. Our consultations help! We believe in high yield, simple interventions and processes that help elucidate these pathways and concepts.

If kidneys fail, a life-saving procedure called dialysis is necessary to sustain life, and even then, subsequent survival decreases drastically (to approximately 5 years on average) unless the gold standard treatment of a kidney transplant is achieved. The average wait time on the kidney transplant list is 5 years (without a living donor), but not everyone is eligible for a transplant and less than 20% of people with kidney failure get a transplant.

Your organization serves our population including those affected by kidney disease and cardiovascular disease which share risk factors. Your organization might be interested in improving patient outcomes, decreasing complications, hospital admissions, & readmissions especially in patients with kidney disease, cardiovascular disease and those at risk of these diseases. If you would like to learn more about a cost-effective consultation that will help you achieve this, please contact our team: request a proposal and provide details of your organization to enable us to determine an estimate of your return on investment (ROI).

We evaluate your systems for potential optimization of medication formularies and services sensitive to populations and providers, to cumulatively improve outcomes in patients with kidney disease and those at risk of kidney disease.

The Kidney Protector provides services to all investors and stakeholders: health organizations and the individual people affected by kidney disease:

In the US, more that 37 million adults have chronic kidney disease (CKD).  However, only 10 % of these patients are aware of their diagnosis.  Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) affects patient outcomes and utilization remarkably. The leading causes of CKD include diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney cysts, kidney inflammation, kidney stones, some hereditary disorders, and severe acute kidney injury (AKI) that does not entirely recover.

Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is also common at approximately 20 % of persons admitted to hospitals. The incidence of AKI was observed to have increased in the setting of the COVID-19 pandemic and therefore the current statistics concerning kidney disease promise to significantly change due to this unprecedented pandemic of epic proportions and its sequelae.

Very few people are aware of the causes of kidney disease: for example, many people are not aware of their diagnoses of diabetes or hypertension, and many do not know that prolonged use of Advil or Motrin (ibuprofen) and many other over-the-counter medications (including some herbal remedies) can cause kidney damage or even kidney failure. Health Plans can help improve lives and the future.

We believe that Patient Education has to be patient education: patients deserve our patience. Patients need simple, brief, engaging, indelible, and motivating educational material. This simple concept of motivational education should be embraced by health plans and societies as a whole. Investing in integrated digital media in health education is key.

Our kidney art and educational posters are all produced in collaboration with Happy Ingenuity Solutions with the goal of increasing awareness of kidney disease, protecting kidneys, and increasing access to helpful information that promotes good health. You can share digital copies for free via messaging and social media to help distribute very small bites and bytes of information that go a long way in motivating healthier choices and in increasing awareness of kidney disease.
